When we started we made a lot of mistakes and sometimes that has impacted our revenue because that were the mistakes from which we have learned a lot and improved our blog and increased our revenue.

If you’re looking for a guide that will help you to avoid the mistakes that a blogger should stop making in their initial journey to multiple their revenue and visitors.

In this guide, I will walk you through some of the common mistakes bloggers make in the initial journey that they should avoid for a successful money-making blog.

Successful Blog VS Failure Blog

I know that you’re curious to learn about the mistakes which you should avoid as a beginner but before moving forward in the guide you need to understand what is a successful blog and a failure blog with the context to mistakes you should avoid as a blogger.

What actually makes a blog successful blog? That is the content it provides and the values it has added to the people. In simple, you can say that as the speed it fails and learns.

That’s the only thing that makes a blog successful and keeps the reader engaged. The ability to bounce back is what makes a blog successful and money-making.

Mistakes are part of everything if you don’t do that you will not learn anything. When you avoid the mistakes that make a blog a failure blog and revenue will not increase.

As a result, avoiding mistakes and just walking blindly with the failed blog will not lead you to growth and your revenue will be stagnant. Let’s dive into some of the common mistakes bloggers make in the initial journey of blogging.

8 Mistakes Bloggers Makes In Blogging

It’s time to dive into some of the common mistakes bloggers make and these mistakes should be noticed if you’re making these mistakes make sure you stop doing these mistakes to make a successful blog.

1. Starting With Free Platforms

The biggest making your make is starting with a free platform. Now let’s discuss what are free platforms and how can you identify a free blog. If your domain has .blogspot or .wix or Squarespace then you’re in trouble.

If you’re building a website on the free platform then you should stop doing that because most people don’t trust content on free websites. The next scenario is you have to do everything manually on the free platform.

Whereas talking about wordpress you will have a lot of peace because work is done easily with plugins and you don’t have to do anything manually that’s the most fascinating part of a wordpress website.

Using free blogs will also hurt your SEO. I am not biased towards free platforms but they are only good if you’re not interested in the monetization of the blog.

On the other hand, I would like to walk you through the SEO part. Did you know free blogs are not easy to rank because they have .blogspot o Wix at the end of the URL whereas the type of content is written on the wordpress org website?

If you only want to write as a passionate blogger then free platforms are the best choice for you but if you want monetization then they are not the ideal choice.

As said earlier free platforms will also hurt your SEO. So always make a wise decision by switching or starting with a  paid platform rather than the free platform.

A lot of people will say that if your beginner you should start with a free platform but let me tell you that starting with a paid platform is always a good choice because you will learn a lot of things.

2. Not Building Email List

The second biggest mistake bloggers make is not building an email list. Most people are unbothered with building email lists thinking that it will not benefit and why we should bother our readers every week.

This was the common mistake we had to make in our initial days of blogging because we were new to this and didn’t spend even a thought on this. we were only pushing content on our website and unbothered with the thought of building an email list.

The only asset is blogger has is an email list and this is the mindset you should carry as a blogger because it will be beneficial for you in the end and the user keeps on engaging.

As soon as the blog is posted or if you have a youtube channel you can mail the readers about that and most likely they will prefer watching it or you can send the newsletter every week to the readers.

One of the best things about creating an email list is it will increase the chances of conversion on any product you will launch in the future. If you ignore the email list it will not be good for your blog.

Always focus because it will differentiate among all who are your potential audience. In the future, you can target them for conversion and leads.

If you’re missing out on an email list your missing out on something big.

3. Not Marketing Your Content

If you’re not spending enough time to market your content then you’re making the biggest mistake because it’s very important to spend time on marketing your content.

Initially, we were only pushing content on our website irrespective of paying attention to marketing we would think it will appear in google search. I know you think in the same way? Isn’t it

Believe me, this is the bitter truth of blogging that you have to get traffic from social media platforms initially once you have good authority google will start trusting your content and it will rank your content.

Initially, you need to market your blog on social media platforms for better reach because google will not trust fresh content or content that doesn’t have domain authority.

I want to say my favorite line from marketing “if people don’t come to you- you go them”.

I still remember don’t marketing the content was the biggest mistake we made in the initial days of blogging. So make sure you pay attention to marketing content.

Look at other people’s content and you will get an idea of how to market your content. It completely depends on you which platform you choose if you market on all the platforms then it will be a better thing you can do.

These are the analytics of social media

4. Not Paying Attention To Quality Content

If you’re not paying attention to the quality content then you’re making the biggest mistake in blogging because quality stands out and makes your content unique among others out there.

I understand the first mistake we do is with the quality content and we did the same initially because as a beginner we didn’t have much idea about what is exactly quality and how can we write quality content?

Quality always plays an important it doesn’t matter how much content your push on the site but if it’s not a quality one then your making the biggest mistake in the blogging.

As a beginner you don’t know the correct route to creating quality content then I would recommend you to see the blogs of people who are putting some really good and valuable content.

I know that you have come across this quote content is king-bill gates

But I would say that quality content is king and it will stand out as unique and differentiate you among others.

5. Website Speed

This is one of the mistakes bloggers make initially because they focus so much on the blog design and are unfocused on the website speed. We did the same in beginning.

One day we read a blog like this and decided to check up on the website speed with page speed insights and it was slower than the turtle. A low page can be the reason why your blog is not getting many visitors or probably have a high bounce rate.

Bounce rate refers to the time where the visitor has clicked and spend no time and click on the back button this could be because the website is taking much time to display the content.

Many times we all do the same whenever we open the website if the content is not loading we will click on back and jump on to the next result that will impact our ranking and in the eye of Google, there will be negative marking.

Now the question over here is how we can increase the website speed? Here are some of the points that will help in increasing the website speed

  • Resize and optimize the images you upload with tinypng
  • Don’t install too many plugins
  • Add borders and touch-ups
  • Don’t upload folders or images that require much space
  • Check your website speed frequently

6. Poor Website Design

Website design is the first thing that a visitor will see if you have an ugly design then they will bounce from the website. Sometimes we don’t focus on this as a beginner we only push out content and the website and keep monitoring visitors.

You don’t have to do this because bad design clearly indicates the bad content because with the improper design there will be many things hang on the website one of the issues will be navigation errors.

A lot of people face navigation errors on the website because of the much load on the website or page this is the mistake we make as a beginner and if you’re the know still ignoring this make sure you fix it because it will cause trouble as the visitors increase on the site.

Moreover, your website design should be reflecting what your blog is about if it’s not reflecting the niche then that’s a big mistake that we need to stop doing.

Now what I mean by reflecting your blog niche with a website is given in the below image

Bloggers’ guidance is all around blogging affiliate marketing and online earning and it says in the front as soon as the user enters the website. This should be the thing you should do to make a successful blog.

7. Deviating From The Niche

Now, these is the mistakes bloggers make in the initial days of blogging they will just deviate from the niche. Now, what do I mean with this context?

Simply if you have a niche in health and fitness then the content on the website should be related to health and fitness not about trending news that’s the real money lies.

Most of the bloggers deviate from the niche and start writing content in different niches. That’s the biggest mistake you will not rank for even either of the one niche always focus on writing content in the niche you have chosen.

However, you can write your content in the micro-niche and put it out but make sure it will resonate with the niche don’t go beyond your niche it will confuse you and the chances of ranking will be zero.

8. Too Thin Content

When we started we wrote too thin content thinking it will be liked by the readers but it turned out to be a disaster now what were the things we were missing out on by writing thin content?

  • No proper explanation
  • Not discussing a depth topic
  • No proper phrasing of paragraphs
  • Heading were not proper

These were the things that made our initial blogs disaster and we learned that readers like content that is explained in detail and we have to buckle up on this and start creating lengthy and meaningful content.

After a lot of research and reading blogs, we have landed on creating content that is in-depth and as well adds value to the user. When I say in-depth it doesn’t mean you need to write ten thousand words make it decent around 2000-3000 words for better explanation.

But Wait!! Your task is not done here, oh no what do I have to do next? I have noticed many bloggers overstuff keywords in blogs thinking they will rank for that blog.

Make sure you don’t make the mistake of overstuffing keywords google will get an indication that it’s an over-stuffed keywords blog. But how do you know the exact number of keywords required?

This will be known with the help of the Yoast SEO plugin that will show you the green signal for each of the things you have done right like keywords in the description, meta description, focus keyphrase, etc…

Final Thoughts On Mistakes Bloggers Make

Obviously turning your blog into a money-making blog is not an overnight thing and you need to work consistently with a focus on the blog and spend time and effort these are the mistakes bloggers make by not focusing.

I hope that I have shed light on all the common mistakes bloggers make in the initial journey of blogging and what matters the most is learning from failure. If you learn to bounce back then nothing will stop in making the blog successful.
